Why this project exists

The E30 restoration is intentionally broader than making an old car run. It is an effort to understand the vehicle as a complete system, recover reliability, preserve its character, and make repairs in an order that does not create avoidable rework.

An older vehicle carries layers of history: worn original parts, previous repairs, unavailable components, and symptoms that may have several causes. The project therefore begins with inspection and evidence rather than replacement by guesswork.

How the problem was framed

Work is organized by safety, reliability, and dependency. Braking, steering, structure, fuel, cooling, and electrical condition take precedence over cosmetic improvement. Each task is documented so part choices, observed conditions, and changes remain traceable.

The car also serves as a durable hands-on classroom for mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting, corrosion awareness, fastener practice, and the realities of maintaining a design several decades after production.
